According to the CDC's website the United States had 18,573 homicides in 2006, that's 6.2 homicides per 100,000. That same year there had 33,300 suicides; that's 11.1 per 100,000. To put it simply, in the United States there are nearly twice as many suicides as homicides.

I'm not sure what that means, but it's interesting.
